George Meredith of Mount Orchard, Tenbury Wells, asks if anyone recalls the barrage balloon.

IN the spring of 1941, as a young lad living on the family farm in Neen Sollars, I was startled by the sound of machine gun fire.
On looking I saw a barrage balloon drifting towards Clee Hill and being fired on by a fighter aircraft which made several passes and then flew away. Rumour had it that the balloon landed in the Ludlow area.
