ON behalf of the committee and members of Tenbury Wells Royal Naval Association, I would like to express our very sincere thanks to the people of Tenbury for supporting our street collection in town on Saturday, October 11.
We raised £576, which exceeds the record we set last year. This year we are putting this money towards purchasing ‘goodies’ parcels to send to Royal Marines serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Unfortunately, the MOD has prevented our usual arrangements for collecting goods from the very generous donations of the community by requiring all parcels to be delivered by sea container, which means having them ready a month earlier than we have had to in the past.
We will be delivering them to the Logistics Corps depot at Bicester on November 7, so if any of the very kind people who supported us in the past would like to do so again we would be very pleased to receive cash donations.
These can be delivered or sent to RM Appeal at The Little Sweet Shop at 25a, Teme St, Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire WR15 8BB, or at 1, The Cage, Market Square, Tenbury Wells, WR15 8Bl. Every £7 we receive provides another parcel; not a lot of money but to a Marine in the deserts of Afghanistan and Iraq the contents of the parcel it buys is an immense morale booster, knowing that people at home are thinking of him at Christmas.
The support we received last year enabled us to send over 250 x 2kg parcels – half-a-ton of welcome goodies. We had hoped to exceed that this year, but the restrictions imposed by the MOD have meant we do not have time to collect goods from the public, hence our appeal. Thank you again to the people of Tenbury for their very generous support.
Ken Holloway, Secretary, Tenbury Wells RNA, Greenhill Close, Tenbury Wells.
