I SUPPORT all that Raymond Knight stated in his letter (EU funding, October 15).
The reason why I believe we should leave the EU is mainly financial. The accounts of the EU are audited by the European Court of Auditors who present an annual report to the EU Parliament who then have to make a decision whether or not to sign off the report.
They also, if satisfied, send assurances to the council and parliament that taxpayers' money is being properly used. They have, however, not been satisfied of that for 19 years in succession. Therefore we have no idea what has happened to all the taxpayers' money paid to the EU. The auditors found that 4.8% of the EU Budget was affected by errors which would have been higher had half the errors in the structural funds been included.
There remains the farce of having two parliaments, which results in the parliament decamping once a month from Belgium to France at a reported cost of over £130 million. A thousand politicians, officials and translators make the same journey on two specially chartered trains. MEPs have voted to scrap a second parliament but the French government has the power to block this move.
