LUDLOW MP Philip Dunne rightly points out that Middleton residents have been waiting for a long time for vehicle activated speed signs to help reduce the frequent speeding through their village (Ludlow Advertiser, July 2).
What he doesn’t say is that local councillors and Shropshire Council agreed the signs nearly two years ago. Traffic calming measures were installed but the speed indicator signs have remained a problem.
We have not been able to progress because of the council’s inefficient procurement processes. At present, it can take up to two years for council officers to obtain vital safety equipment such as speed signs. Even then, the signs can lie in council stores for months before installation.
Shropshire Council should stop motoring in the slow lane on highways matters, for safety’s sake.
