Roy Payne has got poetic about Ludlow May Fair
THE recent revived controversy over Ludlow's May Fair has caused me to add to my corpus of 'Shropshire Lad' limericks:
The May Fair brings joy, fun – and curses!
For while revellers come with full purses,
Kill-joys have the vapours,
Write to the papers,
And deplore Housman's 'Ludlow Fair' verses.
