I WRITE in response to the letter from Daniel McDowell (Attacks on fair critic are unfair, Letters, June 11), in which he states that the critics of Tony Mahalski are being unfair.
Mr McDowell goes on to state he has noticed that the people who defend the May Fair are usually the ones who live furthest away.
I have noticed over the years that the people attacking the May Fair in the town centre are the people that have moved from further away to live in Ludlow.
Born and bred in Ludlow, I grew up in Ludlow Castle, Flat G. My brothers and I loved the May Fair coming to town, as residents of the town centre we never felt the need for a town centre residents' association, we all knew each other, went to school together and grew up together. There weren’t many incomers back in the day complaining of the May Fair or Ludlow Festival.
We would all look forward to these events as a chance to meet up with friends from the surrounding areas.
Mr McDowell goes on about the safety aspect of the May Fair. If it were deemed unsafe, the fire and police services would have objected to its continuing.
He also talks economics; what price on people enjoying themselves, Mr McDowell? Life isn’t all about profit and money, it's about living. I felt privileged to live in the town centre and so should you.
