THE Ludlow Advertiser's coverage of the demonstration in Shrewsbury on May 14 (Anger with council over 'unfairness', May 14) was welcome.

The name of the group concerned is in fact Ludlow Campaign for Fairness (not Campaign for Fairness in Ludlow). LCF is concerned about the whole issue of social fairness and equality in this country, not just in our home town, although we sympathise with the points made specifically about Ludlow by Pat Hansen.

At the demonstration in Shrewsbury there were also supporters from Church Stretton, Shrewsbury and Oswestry.

Cllr Keith Barrow's response, as you record it, is disingenuous. The question raised with the council about their services company ip&e, was that its management is so secretive that even councillors from minority parties cannot find out the details of its operations. It is also the case that the company was set up before the 2013 council elections when it figured in the Tory manifesto.

You rightly note another of LCF's activities, hosting significant speakers on current concerns. The next talk, by the distinguished historian and former Reith lecturer Professor Geoffrey Hosking, on the subject of social trust in British society, will take place on June 19.
