THE campaign “Shropshire Defend Our NHS” says that the accident and emergency at Shrewsbury may be partly privatised next year and NHS provision downgraded.

If so, most of us will suffer, shareholders would be OK and the well-off can afford private anyway. Maybe this will stir some interest in politics.

Politics and politicians have a deservedly bad name, but for the ordinary people to engage with our democratic system is the only way we have to defend what is good and change what is bad.

It is important we give time to being active citizens with an election looming.
