Election day test
I welcome Adam Kibbler’s sane, wise article on Europe.
In history England did not get the name ‘perfidious Albion’ for nothing in dealings with foreign powers.
Our hot and cold, in/out , toe in the water dealings with the EU have been sad to watch.
The persistent and ignorant anti-Europe media campaign in the cheaper Press over many years has led us to the point where calm reason drowns in a sea of exaggeration, ignorance, and anger with racial overtones.
In Wales and Scotland there seems to be more sanity.
Next week will the nickname be earned once more? It is a test for the electorate.

Partnership alive
Adrian Kibbler’s article stated that the timing of the French twinning visit was “somewhat ironic” given the forthcoming European Elections. I assume that he is concerned that there may be strong anti-EU feeling in Ludlow. What was ironic is that only the Union Jack and French Tricouleur were flying. Many of us in Ludlow would also like to have seen the EU flag flying as well. If anyone thinks there is no spirit of partnership between the people of the UK and mainland Europe, think again.
And think Ludlow!
Not only does Ludlow have official twinning connections with France, and Italy (and Wales), it also has informal connections with Germany. A quick scan of my U3A Guide also reveals that the town has four French groups, two German, two Spanish, two Italian, one Greek (and two Welsh).
As people remember the centennial of the First World War’s horrors this year, and vote today in the EU elections, they might like to reflect on the com - plete absence of European war since the EU began.

Band praised
I feel compelled to write to you to celebrate the wonderful talent and dedication I witnessed last Saturday at the Regal.
I have had the pleasure of knowing members of Tenbury Town Band for around five years now, and have delivered workshops to the band for the past two years.
On Saturday, I was invited to be the guest conductor for the annual concert, and what a pleasure this was.
I arrived in the town at 12.30pm to be greeted by the wonderful members of the band and their guests from the ‘Woofers’ regiment, quickly getting into rehearsals.
Here I was able to listen to the band perform and see Mel Parker (conductor of the band) and Edward Holmes (deputy conductor) in full swing, before meeting Derek White, the extremely talented guest vocalist.
After our rehearsals together the concert was quickly upon us.
The Regal was packed, no mean feat with everything that was on during Saturday evening, both in the area and on the TV.
The band played brilliantly during the evening, with a real sense of fun throughout the concert.
It was brilliant to see the future of the band working hard, in the shape of the apprentices group.
