Thank you for helping dogs

LAST year the Ludlow Advertiser featured an article on my adopted dog, Ruby, who was rescued by the UK German Shep - herd Rescue from a life of a bait dog.

At the time, I appealed for donations of books to help with my fundraising.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated.

This year I am appealing for donations of tombola items.

If anyone has any unwanted Christmas gifts or other suitable tombola items they would like to donate, it would be great - ly appreciated. Please contact me on 07527 404486.

Unsatisfactory loo situation

I AM writing to you with regard to the provision of public lavatories in Leominster.

My wife and I have lived in this area for over 50 years. We are both in our late 70s and are quite lame. On February 6 we parked in Corn Square as usual.

I visited Lloyds bank, Boots and the offices in the corner concerning a serious road condition, and was informed that council officers are now based in the library.

I decided to walk, despite my lameness. I proceeded to the conveniences block in the car park near the library.

It was boarded up, and a notice informed me that the nearest lavatory was in the library.

The library was closed. Furthermore, I was informed that the loo was out of use. I walked back to Corn Square, and used the lavatories in Wetherspoon.

These are located up fairly steep stairs.

This situation is most unsatisfactory. While I appreciate the difficult financial situation, Herefordshire can surely do better than this? Ludlow and Church Stretton provide clean, maintained lavatories in a central position; Leominster should do the same.

Has sufficient consideration been given to to the impression given to tourists? I fear not.

Come on, Herefordshire. Give further consideration to the provision of lavatories in Herefordshire.

Boxing Day bang

AT 8.30pm on Boxing Day I heard a very loud bang noise go off outside and I thought it was perhaps the start of a fireworks display, however nothing more was forthcoming that evening.

Several of my neighbours were concerned and we are all wondering just what this noise could have been.

Could anyone please enlighten us as to what was going on in Eardisley village at that time?
