Across the world we see people struggling towards democracy and better things. In the UK we have democracy but it cannot work if citizens do not play their part.

The National Children’s Bureau report describes a problem that gets worse, the plight of 3.6 million children living in poverty in a rich society. Fifty years ago the figure was 2 million. These children are likely to live in poor housing, do poorly in school, lead unhealthy lives with poor diet and restricted play areas and tend to obesity and illness.

Then they struggle to find a job. It is getting worse as our society becomes more and more unequal.

Fifty years ago the average price of a house was £4,500. It is now £171,00.

Who is winning and who is losing?

Politicians must help us understand how to bring about change for the better before this problem threatens the peace of our society, and we must play our part.
