WE have been told that the possibility of new housing in Tenbury is a ‘disaster with Councillor Penn concerned about the potential addition of 128 homes noting that ‘in Tenbury we just do not have the infrastructure and services to deal with this level of additional development’.
What infrastructure does he think they will need? Tenbury is a town with excellent provision, local shops covering a range of needs, minor injury unit at Tenbury Hospital, and schools.
There are many places with the population of Tenbury and Burford that have much less.
In urban/suburban developments huge sites can be built up without so much as a corner shop to offer any provision that doesn’t involve driving. For our shops and services such as the library to survive they need to be used – an increased number of people calling Tenbury home and encouraged into using local resources will surely help rather than hinder the future of the town.
I am not suggesting that we add 1,000 new homes or anything that drastic but the negativity to all new housing plans sounds a bit NIMBYist and such anti-change agendas will, I suggest, result in risking the very things about our community that those such as Coun Penn seek to protect.
