Thank you for Advertiser Comment’s clear condemnation of the housing crisis and support for the Rotarian food initiative.

In the past you carried letters with views on issues both social and political.

We all support ’family’ but families need homes. The country’s basic housing needs should be a first call on the work of all our politicians, political parties and Parliament.

In fact, as you say, their failure has been criminal. Housing benefit never was a solution, merely ensuring the landed interest gets paid while sending the ever-growing bill to the taxpayer.

Politicians need the views of the electorate, not just gut reactions from a debased national press nor the voices of extreme parties.

Could the local press play a part enabling sober, thoughtful views to be expressed on national affairs? Our MP has his slot.

Could we hear from more people?

Politics is the way to change things for the better but the politicians cannot do it alone.
