KINGTON Show is hoping to follow last year’s success with another bumper event.

Entries for this year’s event, which takes place on Saturday, September 14, at The Ovals Farm, close on August 20 for horses, cattle, sheep and poultry.

Clare Edwards, secretary, said: “Last year was a huge success with more than 900 animals entered, including more than 130 pedigree Hereford cattle.”

Due to the huge increase in livestock entries over the last few years, Kington Show now has a separate livestock secretary.

Wendy Preece, of Leominster, is no stranger to the show world, entering her Longhorn cattle in many of the shows and as a past member of Kington Young Farmers.

For a schedule or any livestock queries she can be emailed at wpreece13@ gmail.com or contacted on 01568 610902.

Meanwhile, chairman Nick Layton said there is limited trade stand space left on the showground due to the amount of bookings.

He said: “We can foresee that for the 2013 show we will be turning trade stands away for the first time due to lack of space, particularly in the food and craft marquee.”

Among the many categories this year are ones for horses, sheep and poultry and waterfowl.

There are 17 different horse sections including Pony Club classes which proved so successful last year.

Included in the cattle classes are the pedigree Hereford cattle, Limousin, British Blue, and Commercial cattle together with Young Handlers.

There will be are 14 pure breed sheep classes available, together with two cross-bred breeding ewe lamb classes, plus ‘young handlers’, where children under 16 years can show their skills in handling and showing their sheep.

And due to the successful poultry classes, these will continue, with cups to win for the champion chicken and champion waterfowl.

Other classes include horticultural, domestic and children’s and dog show.
