IF you have ever fancied a taste of a life of self-sufficiency and fresh air, you can now sample the good life for a day on Saturday (June 8).
Acton Scott Historic Working Farm in south Shropshire, pictured, is offering a chance to join life-long farmer Alan Robinson as he gives a hands-on taste of just such a life.
In Alan’s introduction to smallholding, visitors get to know Acton Scott’s livestock and understand how they are managed – the busy day will include practical sessions on keeping poultry, sheep and cattle, plus a chance to work the donkey in harness and learn how to trap moles.
The farming fun in June doesn’t end there though.
For those that have always wanted to step back in time and experience life on a Victorian farm, Monday, June 24 is a date for the diary.
Dressed for the part in Victorian attire, join Margret Newsome to experience a day in the life of a hard-working famer’s wife.
There will be a chance to tend livestock, wash clothes in the copper, churn butter and work on a rag rug, before settling in front of the parlour fire with a welldeserved cup of tea and griddle scones made on the range.
