THE improvement in exam results that has taken place over the past decade is continuing at Ludlow School. For the seventh year out of eight, headline results at the Bromfield Road school have improved.

The headline figure for five A* to C grades including English and maths is now 57 per cent. This is the best ever recorded by the school and a two per cent improvement compared to last year.

“There are some tremendous individual full course results – straight A*’s and As – as well as students who did better than their predictions,”

said headteacher Philip Poulton.

“It is always good to know that the efforts of our young people will result in them moving on to the next stage of their lives. We wish them all the very best.

“We are pleased with the outcomes for our students, who have worked for a long time to achieve these results and they have been rewarded for their hard work and ability.

“I am grateful for the support of everyone involved with the children, particularly the parents, carers and staff.”

Bishop’s Castle Community College

IT has been a year of consolidation at Bishop’s Castle Community College, where 10 per cent of students achieved eight or more A* to A grades.

There were also strong performances in French, science, geography, music, art, ICT and PE. Both French and ICT achieved a 100 per cent A* to C pass rate, with PE achieving a record 66 per cent A* to A grades.

“The college has had significant success this year in some areas of the curriculum and we are delighted where that occurred,” said headteacher Alan Doust.

“However, there is still a lot we could improve on and the work to raise results across the board will continue unabated.”

These results come a week after the college also saw strong performance in its Alevel results.

Lacon Childe School

IT was a record-breaking year for GCSE results at Lacon Childe School in Cleobury Mortimer with the highest ever pass rate (86 per cent) for five or more grades at A* to C.

“The results are outstanding and show the hard work by both pupils and staff to reach this pinnacle of achievement for the school,” said headteacher Alan Gilhooley.

“Everyone associated with the school gives their best and this outstanding result only reflects their commitment.”

Val Simpson, chair of governors, congratulated pupils on their success. The school, a specialist sports college with an outstanding Ofsted report, has seen a 39 per cent improvement in results in the last six years.

Wigmore High School

THERE was much pride when the exam results came in at Wigmore High School.

The school’s pupils have hit a high, with 99 per cent gaining five or more A* to C grades.

The number of students gaining five good GCSE grades including English and maths reached a high of 75 per cent, with the number of A* and A grades also increasing to 42 per cent.

Church Stretton High School

NEARLY three quarters of Year 11 pupils at Church Stretton High School gained five or more A* to C grades.

For the third year running, two thirds of pupils gained five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths.

Headteacher Steve Lunt said he was delighted with the performance of pupils at the school.
