A LUDLOW lawyer has completed a gruelling charity cycle challenge in aid of a popular cancer charity.

Richard Connolly, a partner and residential property expert at Corve Street-based law firm mfg Solicitors, rode almost 66 miles as part of the recent Ludlow Cycling Festival.

The 62-year-old cycling enthusiast completed the event in six hours and nine minutes and raised £680 for Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to sponsorship from friends and colleagues.

The festival itself this year was also co-sponsored by mfg Solicitors.

Mr Connolly, who has completed numerous sponsored cycle events for charity, said he was pleased by his ride time.

"It went very well for a man of my age," he said. "I'm 62 years old but I don't see that as any reason not to get on my bike, especially when it's for a good cause. It was a brilliant local event and it was fantastic to see so many people at the Ludlow Rugby Club."

Previous events Mr Connolly has taken part in have included the famous four-day 300-mile cycle challenge from London to Paris in 2013, in which he helped raise money for Worcestershire's St Richard's Hospice.

Ludlow Cycling Festival took place for the fourth year running on September 17 and saw more than 300 riders cycle to the Welsh borders and back to Ludlow Rugby Club.
