AROUND 80 people gathered at Dinham Millennium Green on September 15 to listen to music played by Vintage Jazz Revival and poems and prose praising the rivers Corve and Teme.

"It was a wonderful evening, and the event raised £704 towards the cost of our flood risk mapping project," said Rosemary Wood, chairman of Friends of the Corve and Teme. "Everyone was invited to 'think green - then blue'. A blue-green infrastructure enables individuals, councils, property developers and landowners to achieve a coordinated approach to both water management and development of green spaces. And to demonstrate our belief in 'blueing the green', Chris and Judy Bradley, formerly of Mr Underhill's Restaurant with Rooms, created glasses of blue or green Pimms!"

Rosemary continued, "People were so generous, and we received a number of donations from supporters. Our thanks go especially to Roger Eaton, who sponsored the cost of the Pimms, and to those Friends who created the most marvellous canapés and served them with such aplomb!"

Friends of the Corve and Teme holds quarterly 'multi-agency' meetings with designated representatives from the Environment Agency, Shropshire Council Highways, Shropshire Council Flood and Water Management Team, Severn Trent Water and Shropshire Wildlife Trust. Contact FCT if you are concerned about potential flooding, be it from rivers, drains or run-off. Planning applications can also affect people and properties 'downstream', and these can be tabled and discussed with our colleagues from the relevant organizations.
