PEOPLE are being encouraged to take part in a ‘town trail’ that will kick-off the weekend of the Bishop's Castle Carnival.

The trail will be on Friday, June 30 and anyone wishing to take part should go to the Castle Hotel at 6pm to collect the clues which can be found throughout High Street and Church Street and in the shop windows.

Sheets can be handed in at the end of the trail at the Six Bells by 8pm and then the winner will be announced once the papers have been marked.

Bishop's Castle Carnival day is on Sunday, July 2 but people are needed to help with the set-up on the day before and the assist with stewarding on the big day.

The theme for the floats in the procession this year is ‘TV through the Ages'.

Walking classes this year will be judged on the field but those classes are also welcome to take part in the procession.

Theme for the best dressed shop window this year is ‘1897’ to commemorate the 120th year of this event.

The carnival procession starts at 1pm and the crowning of the carnival queen, Emma Gwilliam will take place on the playing fields at 2pm along with the crowning of the junior carnival princess Megan Morris.

Bernard Edwards, who has been the carnival parade marshal for many years will open the carnival.

Leaflets about the carnival and what’s on as well as an entry form for the craft competition have been distributed throughout the town.
