MAY is a busy month for the Friends of Bishop’s Castle Library.

There is an annual Book sale tomorrow (Friday, May 12) and on Saturday (May 13) when there will also be a plant sale.

This is the second year that we have held a book sale which is our major fundraiser and enables us to organise and host talks, poetry readings and other events and activities for the local community,” said Alison Price, chair of the Friends.

“Last year we raised well over £1,000 and we very much hope that we can beat that this year.”

A coach trip has also been arranged to visit the Hay Festival on Wednesday, May 31.

The coach will go from Bishop’s Castle library at 9.00 am and will leave Hay on Wye for the return journey at 6.00pm. Tickets for the coach are £10 and can be booked at the library.

The Hay Festival schedule and events booking system is available online.

On May 31, the programme includes a broad choice of topics ranging from apple orchards to organ transplantation, and from the science of the skeleton to how to make an owl out of recycled cardboard!

The Friends of Bishop’s Castle Library was set up to organise events and support the library. Membership is £2 per year (£3 for a family).

New members are welcome and anyone interested can join by calling in at the library.
