RESIDENTS of Bishop's Castle and the surrounding area are being urged to have their say on a strategy that will affect the future of an arts and leisure facility in the town.

Trustees of SpArC Charity Trustees want the community to comment on a leisure strategy

The inclusion of SpArC in the revised Shropshire Council leisure strategy has been hailed as good news and great progress by SpArC charity trustees but it comes with a cautionary warning.

Jean Shirley, who has worked with the charity commission to establish the charity, says that there is still a long way to go.

“The inclusion of SpArC in the revised leisure strategy is really good news for our local community and shows that our views were listened to, but we still have a long way to go,” she said.

At this stage, it is not yet policy; nor does it say how much core funding SpArC will receive or for how long. We need as many people as possible to respond to the leisure consultation by Saturday, May 8 to express their views.”

Funds continue to be raised by the local community with some of the money earmarked for lifesaving qualifications and other training so that additional classes can be held.
