TRADERS at a weekly market in Lydham are backing the campaign to save the SpArC community facility in Bishop's Castle.

A donation has been made from Lydham Market which makes an annual donation of any surplus funds to local community groups.

Lydham Market is held every Friday at Lydham Village Hall between 8am – 1pm and offers a range of stalls selling local produce, - fruit and vegetables, bread, meat, cheese, pickles. Other stalls include: tools, electrical goods, pet products, household furnishings, ethnic clothes/gifts, knitted clothes, printed products, cider and vegan treats.

The market also has a cafe. It has disabled access, toilets, heating and a car park.

“Each year we aim to distribute any surplus funds after we have paid for hall hire and other expenses to local good causes,” said Warren Prosser, the market manager.

“This year we really wanted to support the Save the SpArC campaign as so many local people use the leisure centre and it is really important that it stays open.”

Lydham Market made a donation of £50 with Warren Prosser presenting a cheque to Ruth Houghton from SpArC.

The Save the SpArC campaign has raised over £60,000 towards improving the leisure centre and been awarded a community energy grant from M&S which has been used to install a new pool cover which is reducing running costs though reducing heat loss and water evaporation.
