MEMBERS of Knighton Town Council, Penybont Sports Council and Whitton Short Mat Bowling Club visited the site at Bleddfa to see the work Severn Trent is doing to replace a worn section of the aqueduct carrying water from Elan Valley to Birmingham.

The Severn Trent project is being carried out by Barhale Construction and the North Midland Construction company, The BNM Alliance. During the site tours each group was shown around by Geoff Hancock customer liaison manager and Richard Holloway project manager.

Work on this section of tunnelling will be complete in the next few weeks. BNM Alliance will then move to the Nantmel site to prepare for tunnelling to begin there before Knighton where a tunnel will be made under Ffrydd Wood.

After the visit Whitton Short Mat Bowling Club invited Geoff and Richard to Whitton Community Hall to have a go at bowling.

While there Geoff Hancock presented the club with a cheque for £100 to go towards the clubs charity fundraising.

The club recently held a charity pairs competition, this raised £300 so the club will now be donating £400 to St Michael's Hospice.

The competition winners were Tal Short and Trevor Mines from Pantydwr.
