A BUSY week of half term activities has been taking place in Craven Arms.

The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre has put the Mammoth as the centre of its holiday programme.

Throughout the week families have been learning the story of the ‘last mammoth in Britain’ and what its bones reveal about the end of the Ice Age.

“The mammoth bones and what they tell us are fascinating plus they are from a time period that all primary school children study in school and this helps make the period come alive. We will also be making mammoth masks and a cast of a bone,” said Stephanie Bellows from Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre.

With Halloween coming up tomorrow (Friday, October 28) families can do some Spooktacular Cooking.

They will be making edible dentures that Dracula would be proud of and delicious hot dog mummies and completing their Halloween feast with adorable strawberry ghosts.

This will run from 10 am to 11.30 am. £7.50 per accompanied child aged 5-11 years. Half price for families within a 4 mile radius of Craven Arms (funded by Craven Arms Area Youth Group).

Then on Saturday (October 29) the storyteller, Suzanne, celebrates the apple harvest and will be making spooky apple ‘heads’ ready for Halloween. £2.50 per accompanied child.

The session is aimed at children three to seven years old but older and younger siblings are welcome. No need to book, just show up.

Apples round off the week on Sunday (October 30) when between 10.30am and 12noon people can bring their apples to have them pressed and turned into juice.
