LACON Childe School in Cleobury Mortimer had a world champion as its guest at its annual Sports College presentation evening.

The celebration of magnificent sporting achievements and participation at all levels was presented to a large gathering of pupils and parents.

Guests included double Paralympic gold medallist, three times world champion and multiple world record-holding archer, Danielle Brown, MBE and former pupil and current staff member, Steve Adams, as speakers.

Danielle has achieved much in her sporting career including being the first disabled athlete to represent England in an able-bodied discipline and she showed how she maintained this level of performance by being ranked No 1 throughout her entire career.

Her focus was on the removal of barriers to sporting and life achievements, irrespective of disability. Danielle was also asked to present awards for commitment and dedication in a wide range of school sports – including show jumping, volleyball, hockey and football.

“I was amazed at the breadth and depth of sports that Lacon Childe School offers and it was great to see so many pupils engaging and excelling in sport,” she said.

The evening concluded with a presentation of a cheque for £1113.21 to the Adam Millichip Foundation, a local charity whose goal is to help as many people as possible with disabilities access sport.

A regular performer on the London stage, Lacon pupil Holly Rennel opened the evening with a dance performance, showing what an accomplished ballerina she has become.

The event was organised and coordinated by Kathryn Fish, a Year 7 pupil at Lacon Childe School.
