WIGLEY'S Fields allotments in Dinham are an organic paradise! Enchantingly situated in the shadow of Ludlow Castle and Whitcliffe, and bounded by the River Teme, it is a wonderful place to just sit, listen to the birds singing, or look at the wooded skyline. And – because of a wonderfully generous offer from the Wigley's Field Allotments' Committee - that is just what members of the Ludlow Cancer Support Group can do!

The allotment committee has allocated a specific area for LCSG members to sit quietly and absorb and enjoy the beauty and healing power of nature. A date was set to clear the plot, and with the help of willing volunteers, miracles have been achieved.

"Our first 'dig-in' was at the end of April", said LCSG Chairman, Rosemary Wood. "Our original thought was to call this our Garden of Contemplation. But we have decided to re-name this beautiful corner of Wigley's Field Allotments 'Joan's Garden', in memory of Joan Farley, who was instrumental in setting up the group"

Within a very short time, nettles have been cleared, ground tilled, wild flower seed sown, and vegetables planted. A memorial bench has been donated, a medieval monastery herb garden created, and a scarecrow made.

The official opening of 'Joan's Garden' takes place at 11.30am next Thursday, August 25, and on August 28, Wigley's Field Allotments will be open to the public from 11am to 4pm as part of Ludlow's Green Festival.
