WORK is set to start to improve water supplies in Bishop's Castle.

Severn Trent starts work next month (August) to replace four miles worth of water pipes in the town.

But before work begins, the company is inviting local residents to a drop-in session to hear more about the plans.

“To make sure the water pipes in the Bishop's Castle area of Shropshire continue to serve the community for years to come, we need to replace the old water pipes with more reliable ones,” said Gareth Mead of Severn Trent.

“This work is part of a £700,000 investment we’re making and we’re keen to tell the local community about our plans.”

Severn Trent confirmed that work will begin in late August in Brampton Road (B4385) on the outskirts of Bishop's Castle, working towards Lydbury North.

In order to keep people safe, the water company will need to use traffic lights and a 10-mile-an-hour convoy system.

“We know that this work could cause some inconvenience and closing roads may cause disruption for the local community and we’d like to apologise to anyone who will be affected,” said Gareth Mead.

A public exhibition is being held at the SpArC Leisure Centre today (Thursday, July 28) between 4pm and 7pm.
