Bishop’s Castle

NOMINATIONS CLOSE TODAY - For the first Bishop’s Castle Civic Awards. The town council will be holding the awards ceremony on October 13 at the Town Hall, Bishop’s Castle, and there is still time to nominate an individual, organisation, school or business that has made a distinctive contribution to the life of the town. Mayor Karen Bavastock says: “The awards are designed to recognise not only the major players in shaping our town, but also those unsung heroes who go about their lives, helping others and don’t seek any form of recompense or acknowledgement. It is designed to acknowledge the work of community groups or individuals who have contributed to the social well-being of the town from major community projects to someone who looks out for his or her residents and does their shopping.”

Karen Bavastock adds: “I am pleased to say that we have had a small number of nominations so far but I know there are many more people who deserve to be nominated and the deadline is looming fast. If people do not have the form I am quite happy for a letter to be written explaining who you wish to nominate and why.

It needs to be clear who is making the nomination and who is being nominated and why.”

Members of the public are encouraged to make nominations, as well as officers and members of the town council.

Individuals, groups, organisations, schools and businesses can be nominated but they must have a distinctive connection to Bishop’s Castle or be based or have a base within the area.

Nominations are welcomed for paid employees of community organisations and charities operating within the town, but there must be evidence that their efforts add significant contribution to the social well-being of the town beyond the requirements within their job description.

Successful nominations and their nominees will be informed by the end of September, when both will be invited to the presentation evening.

The nominees of unsuccessful nominations will be informed at this time.

The town council will not participate in any correspondence on the matter – the judges’ decision is final.

Each nomination will be judged on its own merits and not against each other. Forms are available online at bishopscastle.co.uk/council, by e-mailing: townclerk@bishopscastle.co.uk or by phoning 01588 638141.
