THE July meeting of Knowbury WI proved to be lively and enjoyable. The presence of our gentlemen and friends guests, as well as the special addition of the bar, added a different dynamic to the meeting. Many thanks to John Felix for running the bar and for the £38 profit which was donated to WI funds.

The speakers, Vince Williams and Jon Goodson, gave a talk centred on the Grand Union Canal about the mainly middle class women who were conscripted to work for the Inland Waterways during the Second World War.

Final plans were made for the charity stall to be run as our special contribution to the centenary year and some of the goods to be sold were on display. An update was given on the plans to put forward a resolution for the 2016 AGM, the proposed craft entry to the Burwarton show this year and our flowering planter contribution to Ludlow in Bloom.

Our visitors enjoyed an excellent supper provided by Chris Walker and Ann Galbraith.

There is no meeting in August. On September 11 the speaker will be Barbara Foster who will reflect on a journey to the Holy Land. Visitors and new members always welcome. Tel president Carol Hardy 01584 891775 or secretary Ann Loveday 01584 890819 for further details.
