POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information after a fatal road traffic collision on the A49 in Church Stretton yesterday.

The incident occurred at around 7.10am on the A49 Church Stretton crossroads and involved a heavy goods vehicle and a pedestrian.

The vehicle, driven by a 49-year-old man, was travelling north up the A49 towards Shrewsbury when it was in collision with an elderly woman in her 90s near to the traffic lights.

She received fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene at around 7.40am. Her next of kin are still to be informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses of the collision to come forward and particularly wish to speak to the driver of a small 4x4 type pick-up, white or silver in colour, that is believed to have been travelling behind the HGV.
