A FORMER student of Bishops Castle Community College has won a photographic competition run by Dulux paints and The Guardian newspaper. Twenty one-year-old Florence Fox, from Churchstoke submitted four images to the Guardian Camera Club and her winning entry was published in the Guardian Weekend Magazine on March 29. After working for her GCSEs at Bishops Castle, Florence went to Ludlow College for her A Levels and then on to Manchester Metropolitan University to study photography. After 12 months she decided to defer a year and try to make her own way in the world of photography. This decision seems to be paying off and Florence's first engagement was for the university drama department at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. The Guardian competition asked for images with a strong narrative connection and Florence chose pictures of herself and her childhood friend Rosalind Peters, now a student at Oxford. The pair have always enjoyed dressing up and the bold colours, vintage fashion and sense of fun caught the judges’ eye. Florence has asked Rosalind to attend the award ceremony in London on her behalf as she has just flown off to Japan to capture the spring cherry blossom on camera and to celebrate her 21st birthday. A career in photography is her ambition and she is building her business primarily as a wedding photographer. Look on www.florencefox.com for more information.
