LOCAL Church Stretton based charity, Scrappies, is celebrating after receiving a £300 donation from the Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund.
Scrappies collects wasted materials from businesses and households in the local area, to make things, pass on, or sell to members. As part of this, the charity runs a store where members, including schools, youth clubs and nurseries, can purchase materials for use in craft projects. The charity also runs craft workshops and training sessions.
Irene Briscoe, coordinator, says "As a charity, we rely on the proceeds from our store to fund our craft and training workshops, so when business is slow we struggle to find the money to support these activities.
"This donation from the Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund couldn't have come at a better time. We can now afford to continue offering craft workshops to help educate young people in the area."
Galaxy Hot Chocolate seeks to help small, local community groups and charities across the UK and Ireland by donating cash awards to support warm hearted people and projects.
Michelle Frost, spokeswoman for Galaxy Hot Chocolate said "There are thousands of warm hearted people and organisations that go out of their way to help their local community day in day out.
"The Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund aims to support their work and hopefully inspire more people to get involved with local community groups."
