MORE than 100 excited local school children are preparing for this event.

Following a recent visit to Church Stretton School the children were seen designing and making medieval costumes under the direction of Mrs Sam Jones who is the primary liaison co-ordinator.

The primary schools currently participating are St Lawrence, Stokesay, Wistanstow, Condover, Rushbury, Dorington and Longnor - this amounts to more than one hundred children. St Lawrence provides the workshop area and enables each school to send their children for one full day per week.

The children design their own fabric shield of whatever colour they choose which they then sew on to the basic costume having cut it out earlier using an agreed pattern. After all their efforts many of them want to join in the street procession on June 21, which with their help should be a noisy affair and attract attention – what more could a child want?

Church Stretton Secondary School also have a programme of entertainment to contribute which includes a variety of music, dance and games. More detailed information on these activities will follow meetings with the teachers involved.

All the schools and children involved are thanked for their support.
