A CALL has been made for a blitz on speeding drivers in a south Shropshire Village.
Charlotte Barnes, Lib Dem Councillor for Bishops Castle, has urged West Mercia Police to continue its blitz on speeding motorists in Lydbury North following successful enforcement sessions in the New Year.
"Speeding is a perennial problem through Lydbury North,” she said.
“There is a long straight stretch in the village on the road to Bishops Castle and the irresponsible few hit the accelerator along this section of road.
"The primary school is in this part of the village and this type of behaviour puts mums and children, as well as ordinary pedestrians, at risk.
"Recently our local police issued three speeding tickets at Lydbury North and warned others in one enforcement session.
“What I would like to see however is a sustained effort in Lydbury to give the message that the village is a 'no go area' for speeding traffic. Just across the border in Churchstoke, Dyfed-Powys Police's regular enforcement action has curbed speeding markedly."
Charlotte Barnes has also asked for vehicle activated signs to remind people to slow down.
