FLOWER FESTIVAL - Ladies cheerfully served scrumptious home made cakes at the Stokesay Flower Festival in Craven Arms on the Sunday after the united Songs of Praise service. There were some magnificent flower displays by local people within the church, featuring ‘Shropshire Heritage’ which included various main features eg ‘The Shropshire Hills’, ‘Canals’, ‘Wenlock Olympics’, ‘Railways’, ‘The Village Church’, ‘The Wool Trade’, ‘Shrewsbury Flower Show’, ‘Country Markets’, ‘Farming’, ‘Market Drayton Gingerbread’ (by the 1st Craven Arms Brownies) and ‘Shropshire Coat of Arms’. Over the bank holiday weekend, there was much activity, with various stalls selling books, crafts, flowers, cards and gifts. Proceeds went to the Church, St John the Baptist, with a donation to the Severn Hospice.

BOOK FAIR - At Severn Hospice Book Shop, The Square, Craven Arms on Saturday from 9am to 2pm.

FLOUNDERS FOLLY - will be open this Saturday and Sunday and September 30 from 11am to 4pm. More details at www.floundersfolly.org.uk.

WISTANSTOW LUNCH - A soup and pudding lunch will be held on September 12 from 12pm to 1.30pm in the village hall. Entry £6 in aid of church funds. Further dates for your diary: October 24 and November 28.

LINK ROMANIA - ‘Shoe box’ time is coming round again. This is the scheme where you are all invited to fill a shoe box with useful items for families in poor parts of Eastern Europe. For more details ring Brenda on 07947 934568.

RAIL USERS’ ASSOCIATION - The annual general meeting will be held on September 24 at 7.30pm at the Methodist Centre, inner room, where also you can hear about Arriva’s latest plans, ask questions and make comments. This organisation offers all travellers, potential travellers and anyone who is interested the chance to raise their local rail concerns.

Admission is free and there will be light refreshments. All are welcome.

RSPB - The local group has a meeting next Tuesday at 7.30pm in the village hall Culmington, when there will be an illustrated talk given by Brayton Holt entitled Birds and Animals of Madagascar.
