A WALK through some of the county’s most beautiful bluebell woods will be led from the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms this weekend.

Expert guide, Keith Pybus, will be taking a group through the Shropshire countryside to a stunning display of woodland bluebells on Sunday morning (May 8).

“We are blessed in this country with bluebells,” said Keith Pybus who will lead the walk.

“No wonder it's our unofficial national flower. Almost half the world's bluebells are in the British Isles and the best bluebell woods are in the wetter western parts like the Shropshire Hills.

“The flowers appear so early because they need sunlight so once the leaf canopy is complete there would be too much shade. In this part of Shropshire we are especially fortunate in having Sallow Coppice.

“This wood has been managed by coppicing: cutting the trees lets in the pools of light the bluebells need. The plants spread and give us the spectacular displays.”

The walk will start at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre on Sunday and take place between 10.30am to 12.30pm and costs £5.00 per person.
