CLIVE Leworthy who has been active in politics in south Shropshire for a decade has resigned from the Labour party.

He says that he believed that the party he joined has become a protest movement rather than a serious alternative government.

“I have become very disillusion with the party since the General Election and it has crystallised since the election of Jeremy Corbyn as party leader,” said the vice-chairman of Craven Arms Town Council.

“The farcical way in which the leader was elected with people who could pay a few pounds to join was wrong.

“It seems that the party is being taken over by people who are better organised than the Militant Tendency all those years ago.”

Clive Leworthy, who works as a volunteer co-ordinator for Shropshire Council and is closely involved with the local football club, says that he has no plans to join any other political party and plenty to keep him busy.

“I joined Labour at the time when Tony Blair was leader and whatever people say about him he won three elections and there was a real opportunity to change things,” added Clive Leworthy.

“My work will continue with the Town Council and this has never been in any way party political.”
