FRIENDS of the Leintwardine Community Library (FOLCL) are holding a party to celebrate World Book Night 2015.

This will take place at Leintwardine Community Centre at 7.30pm on Thursday April 23.

The free and fun evening for all ages will feature guest of honour Herefordshire author Elizabeth Forbes.

She will give an interview about her writing, with readings from her novels 'Nearest Thing to Crazy' and 'Who Are You?'

“I am delighted to be celebrating World Book Night with a community who have done so much to keep their local library alive, and who are clearly committed to promoting the love of books and joy of reading,” said Ms Forbes.

She will present the prizes for a local children's writing competition on the theme of 'Alice in Wonderland.'

The competition, inspired by Herefordshire Libraries’ Book Festival, was run jointly by FOLCL and Caroline Preston, head of English at Wigmore School.

Leintwardine celebrated the festival with a Mad Hatter’s tea party in the library.

The library was recently threatened with closure because of local government cuts. Locals petitioned Herefordshire Council, and volunteered to run the library unpaid.
