ALCOHOL BAN - Despite the seriousness of a local issue with regard to alcohol abuse in the town, a proposed ban aimed at combating anti-social behaviour in Craven Arms has been put on hold by Shropshire Council for about eight months to the despair of local councillors. The police received 56 calls from alarmed residents during July and August this year. The police and town councillors in the town have spent many months on proposals to introduce an alcohol enforcement zone, giving officers power to confiscate drinks from people causing disturbances.

Craven Arms CRAVEN ARMS AND DISTRICT HISTORICAL GROUP - The Craven Arms and District Group had a summer outdoor event on Wednesday when a number of members and visitors travelled to the beautiful village of Hopesay as guests of Sandra Spence. There was a pleasant guided walk around the area, with particular reference to pieces of land and property owned by the Beddoes family and how changes have been made over the years since the 1800s, together with interesting facts concerning occupations and lifestyles in the earlier years. The group then proceeded up the wild flowerbordered lane to the ancient St Mary's Church. They were told that originally there would have been shutters at the windows and it was not until the second half of the 19th and the early 20th-centuries that the majority of the present stained glass was installed. There was also a short lecture relating to other items of interest around the church, together with fascinating stories and relevant facts.

CRAVEN ARMS & DISTRICT RAIL USERS ASSOCIATION - The recent AGM open meeting in the Methodist Hall was felt to be successful with a good atmosphere. Two representatives of British Transport Police were present and spoke to the group, although they were twice called out during the evening to help with emergencies near to the town. There were refreshments, followed by discussions with regard to local and general issues. It was expected that at some time, hopefully in the near future, CCTV cameras and modern shelters would be provided on the platform. Several people spoke about their experiences when travelling by rail, and Richard's talk on amusing rail stories was most appreciated.
