FLOWER FESTIVAL - Ladies cheerfully served scrumptious home made cakes at the Stokesay Flower Festival in Craven Arms on the Sunday after the united Songs of Praise service. There were some magnificent flower displays by local people within the church, featuring ‘Shropshire Heritage’ which included various main features eg ‘The Shropshire Hills’, ‘Canals’, ‘Wenlock Olympics’, ‘Railways’, ‘The Village Church’, ‘The Wool Trade’, ‘Shrewsbury Flower Show’, ‘Country Markets’, ‘Farming’, ‘Market Drayton Gingerbread’ (by the 1st Craven Arms Brownies) and ‘Shropshire Coat of Arms’. Over the bank holiday weekend, there was much activity, with various stalls selling books, crafts, flowers, cards and gifts. Proceeds went to the Church, St John the Baptist, with a donation to the Severn Hospice.

HISTORICAL FUN – Historical reenactors will teach youngsters to ‘stand and deliver’ at Stokesay Castle on Thursday, August 23. Bosses at the English Heritage site will host a ‘highwayman school’ for children to learn how 17th century bandits got money, jewels and ransoms off their wealthy victims. The event will demonstrate the skills and tell the stories of both the law breakers and makers. Children will be able to learn dragon-battling skills with junior jousting for young knights and sit at the Round Table for tales of the gallant knights.

HISTORY GROUP - The Craven Arms and District History Group have their next meeting at The Discovery Centre on Wednesday at 7pm. ABATTOIR RELOCATION - The proposed multi million pound relocation plans are expected to bring a substantial number of jobs to the town, if there is support from the local people. It is proposed to move the abattoir from the present unsatisfactory and unpopular site in the centre of the town to one at Newington Farm, with room for expansion over the coming years.
