AN activity centre is offering visitors the chance to try the latest extreme sports craze – “slacklining” – free at a special open day.

Enjoyed by celebrities such as Madonna, slacklining is a combination of tightrope walking and trampolining.

Slackliners balance, walk and do tricks on a length of webbing suspended between two points, but the slackline is not tightened so becomes bouncy, making it harder to balance.

Anthony Eddies-Davies, owner of the Old Vicarage Adventure Centre in Stottesdon, near Cleobury Mortimer, said: “Slacklining is taking off in the UK after coming across from the USA.

“There’s a real buzz about it, and we wanted to add it to the activities people already enjoy at the Old Vicarage. We are sure it is going to be a real hit.”

Slacklining is one of a range of outdoor pursuits which visitors to the centre can try free at an open day on Sunday between 11am and 4pm.

Other free taster sessions include climbing, pony riding, leap of faith, archery and jousting.
