WHEN Lowri Ackerman who lives in Burford decided to open a hair salon in Cleobury Mortimer she wanted to name it after her hairdressing grandmother.

That’s why the shop in Talbot Square goes by the unusual name of ‘Edma Maes.’ It marks the latest move in an eight year career as a hair stylist for 24-year-old Lowri.

As well as running the business which opened at the beginning of December she is also the mother of two little girls – Mya, five, and Eva, 18 months.

“I worked in Aberystwyth where I did my training and we moved back to Cleobury Mortimer where I have also worked,” said Lowri.

“We now live in Burford and I have been hairdressing in Tenbury as well as working as a mobile stylist.”

She is not fazed by starting her own business in the present economic climate and is hopeful about the future.

“Christmas is always the busiest time of the year in hairdressing,” said Lowri.

“I also hope to pick up some custom from people who live on the north side of the Teme Bridge and who will find it difficult to get into Tenbury when the bridge is shut for repair.”

She is providing work for a trainee hairdresser and will be open five days a week from Tuesday to Saturday.

“My grandmother who has now died was a hairdresser in Shropshire and I wanted to name my shop in her memory.
