A CLEOBURY brewery has something to drink to having picked up a barrel full of awards at the Ludlow spring food festival.

It was awards galore for Hobsons Brewery at the SIBA Wales and West Region Beer competition with the south Shropshire brewer collecting five gongs at the regional beer competition in the grounds of Ludlow Castle.

Over 200 beers were judged by 100 experts during the day; Hobsons entered seven categories and had a success rate of 70 per cent – not bad for a brewery that started brewing out of an old converted saw mill 18 years ago in Cleobury Mortimer.

Four of the awards were for Hobsons bottled beers, an expanding part of the business. Twisted Spire a vibrant blond beer received the Gold award in the Gold beers cate gory and was announced runner up in the Champion Bottled Beers. Firm favourites Postman’s Knock and Old Henry respectively picked up bronze awards in their categories.

Hobsons Mild picked up yet another award, this time the SIBA Gold award for standard Mild ales in the Wales and West Region Beer Competition, adding to the CAMRA West Midlands award in December.

“It’s overwhelming to win so many awards in one competition, we’re proud of all our beers and our team behind the award winning ales,” said Tim Sant, one of Hobsons brewers.
