A SPECIALIST food ingredients company has been to Westminster to focus attention on the lowering of the amount of salt in what we eat.

Philip Dunne, MP for Ludlow, attended an event in Parliament to highlight hidden salt content in food? at which local business Kudos Blends from Cleobury Mortimer exhibited.

The Parliamentary event was arranged by Consensus Action on Salt and Health, who aim to reduce daily intakes of salt from food. Kudos Blends manufacture baking products which can improve taste, texture, quality and shelf life of baked goods.

“I was pleased to see Matt Ayres and Kirsten Webster from Kudos Blends in Cleobury Mortimer at the event in the House of Commons highlighting the potential health effects of hidden salt content on public health,” said Philip Dunne.

Kudos is a rapidly growing company that exports its baking ingredients to companies operating in major food markets.

“I am pleased the UK was the first country in Europe to introduce a voluntary, consistent front-of-pack nutritional labelling scheme,” added Philip Dunne.

“The system combines red, amber and green colour-coding and nutritional information to show how much fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar, and calories are in food products. Consumer knowledge and choice is important to tackle hidden health risks in food.”
