THE future of the library in Cleobury Mortimer is under a cloud.

Money saving changes will either involve the facility being run by Shropshire Council but with reduced opening hours or transferring to a private company.

Shropshire Council is inviting residents in Cleobury Mortimer and the surrounding area to give their views on proposals for their local library service.

A period of consultation starts today has started and will run until Wednesday, October 7.

The library is one of several services currently run by Shropshire Council based at The Cleobury Country Centre in Cleobury Mortimer.

Under a transfer to Cleobury Country the library will remain in its existing location and opening times will not be affected except that access to a librarian will be Monday – Friday and Saturday mornings, instead of as it is currently – Monday, Wednesday, Saturday morning and every other Friday.

However, it continues to be operated by Shropshire Council there will be a reduction in opening hours.

There is also an opportunity for residents to suggest other sustainable and cost-effective alternatives the council should consider for the future delivery of the library service Cleobury Mortimer.
