HOBSONS Brewery is celebrating its charity ale “Old Prickly” this month which has raised more than £15,000 for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, from 300,000 pints and bottles sold.

Based in Cleobury Mortimer, Hobsons, has been working alongside the Ludlow based British Hedgehog Preservation Society since 2012 when they launched Old Prickly as part of the charity’s 30th Anniversary.

The beer has proved to be so popular it is now a regular brew in both draught and bottle.

"We are amazed and delighted that Old Prickly sales to date have raised more than £15,000 for our charity, we would like to thank Hobsons very much for all their efforts to help hedgehogs,” said Fay Vass, of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

“Hedgehogs are in decline in the UK at the same rate as tigers are globally, so we need to do all we can for our prickly friends."

May 3 to May 9 marks the National Hedgehog Awareness week when the country gets to celebrate and raise awareness of Hedgehogs - one of the nation's favourite and most-threatened woodland species.

Hobsons is rolling out a special Old Prickly promotion during Hedgehog Week in a number of local pubs and retailers with scratch cards to win prickly merchandise, prize draws and events.

As part of National Hedgehog Awareness week the British Hedgehog Preservation Society are organising a special 'hedgehoggy' event at Hobsons Brewery on Thursday, May 7 involving a Hedgehog talk and brewery tour as well as food and refreshments.

Contact the British Hedgehog Preservation Society on 01584 890801 for tickets costing £10. During the evening Hobsons will present the charity with their donation.
