TOWN ENHANCEMENT - The traffic surveys have been done and the money is on the table to give Church Stretton the opportunity to make changes to the town centre.
The money will pay for any of the main options suggested by the public which will improve the town and make it more welcoming to visitors. Meetings have taken place at the Sylvester Horne Institute to allow everyone a chance to hear the suggestions which have been put forward. It is now up to the public to send back their completed feed back forms to the town clerk by Monday, February 1, at the latest so that all ideas can be considered in time for the council meeting at 7pm on February 16, when the recommendations will be put to Shropshire Council while the money is available. This meeting is open to the public. The main areas for discussion include a speed reduction, double yellow lines and a shared space, a one-way system or no alterations in High Street.
Improvements to the square include a seating area and planters.
Also under discussion is a coach drop-off point in Lion Meadow together with a proposal for additional toilet facilities and a raised pedestrian crossing point at Easthope Road. It was felt that none of the measures would significantly reduce parking spaces in the town.
