James Gibson was elected as chairman with Mel McFarland vice-chairman. James Gibson explained the background , purpose and powers of the committee. During the evening there was a discussion on the local access to broadband and Ian Binks, BT regional manager, made a short presentation and answered questions. The meeting continued with community matters, and one item which showed there was some disquiet over was the proposed trial of the one-way system and whether it should be north-south or southnorth.
No decisions had been made and it was suggested that a trial of both routes should be undertaken before any final decision is made.
From the Community Chest Fund of £22,000 the meeting agreed £5,000 should be available locally and applications up to £500 would be considered after the closing date of September 1.
Suggestions for future discussions included local flooding issues and climate change with the next meeting set for 7pm on September 29 at Rushbury Village Hall.
