GARDEN SHOW - Awards at Acton Scott’s garden show on Saturday will be presented by Ryan Kennedy of BBC Radio Shropshire. The show opens at 2.30pm and non-members are welcome. Admission is, adults 50p, accompanied children free. Light refreshments will be available.

FAMILY DAY - On Sunday a family day is being staged at Gonsal Farm animal centre, from 10.30am. There will be a car boot sale, a dog show, displays and tour of the rehabilitation centre.

CANCER CARE - Stretton and Shropshire Cancer Care meeting takes place at Mayfair community centre on Monday at 2.30pm, with a discussion led by Doreen Hall under the heading What’s on Your Mind?

COMMUNITY CINEMA - The film to be screened at Church Stretton School on Monday will be Quartet (PG) a comedy/drama directed by Dustin Hoffman. The film stars Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, Billy Connolly, Pauline Collins and Sheridon Smith, and starts at 7.30pm with interval refreshments available.

AGM - Methodist Wives and Friends holds its annual general meeting on Tuesday in the Methodist hall at 7.30pm. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

SMALLHOLDERS - Shropshire Smallholders meet at Leebotwood village hall on Thursday, September 12, at 7.30pm, for a talk by John Hughes on fungi, and this will be followed by a fungi foray on September 29, at Earls Hill, Pontesbury.

SPORTS CHAPLAIN - Manchester United Football Club’s chaplain John Boyers, founder of Sports Chaplaincy UK, will be speaking at a dinner at the Longmynd Hotel on Thursday, September 12 at 7pm. The two-course meal costs £12.50.

CAR BOOT SALE - A charity car boot sale is planned by Rushbury and Cardington Women’s Institute for September 14, at Rushbury village hall, from 10am-2pm. The fee is £5 and enquiries should be made by calling 01694 724066/771382.

WAX NIGHT - A charity wax night will be held at the Station Inn, Marshbrook, on September 14, from 9pm-late.

There will be live band, Ocean Avenue, a cake stall and raffle, and proceeds will go to Mcmillan Cancer Support, Air Ambulance and Hope House Hospice.

OPEN CHURCH - An open church and exhibition with the theme of cycling with history, poetry and flowers, takes place at St Margaret’s Church, Acton Scott, on September 14, from 11am- 4pm.

HELP FOR HEROES - A 12-mile walk will leave from All Stretton at 10.30am on September 21, with refreshments served at 9.30am. A fee of £6 or £6 sponsorship raised allows entry.
