COUNTRY MARKET - The Country market held at Mayfair community centre continues tomorrow (Friday) and is open from 9.15am to 11.45am selling cakes, produce and crafts.

PROMISE AUCTION - A promise auction and hog roast will be held at Church Stretton School tomorrow (Friday) to raise funds for the forthcoming student expeditions to Borneo and Romania.

There are many items to bid for in the auction including a holiday voucher, gym membership, meals and gardening.

Tickets cost £10 and the event opens at 7pm -11pm. The students will be helping local communities to improve their houses and lives during their expeditions.

DANCING - Catch up with the Shropshire Bedlams and Martha Roden’s Tuppenny Dish at the Ragleth Inn, Little Stretton, at 1pm on Saturday and at the Chalet Pavilion in Carding Mill Valley at 3pm.

The dancers will be performing a unique form of border morris dancing.

SUMMER FAIR - Mildred’s summer fair takes place at the Methodist hall on Saturday from 10am - 12 noon selling cakes, gifts, books, cards and plants.

There will also be a raffle and admission is £1 including coffee.

Proceeds of the event will benefit World Church.

BOOK EVENT - A book event at Mayfair on Saturday will provide an opportunity for budding authors to find out how to get work published by talking to visiting local authors and asking questions.

There will be books and special offers available at the event which is open from 10am - 1pm.

MUSIC - Music at Leasowes Bank on Saturday night features the Ligeti String Quartet in a Festival Commission Concert, and on Wednesday night will feature violin, cello and accordion in Zum3.

The final concert will be on July 20.

SUNDAY BRUNCH - A Sunday brunch is planned for Sunday by the Friends of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Starting at All Stretton village hall from 11am - 1pm participants may drive, stroll, cycle or run the course. Tickets cost £10 and details are available by ringing 01694 722072.

STRAWBERRY TEA - The local committee for Cancer Research UK is hosting a strawberry tea at Essex Lodge in All Stretton on Sunday from 2.30pm - 4.30pm.

In addition to cream teas there will be stalls selling plants and cakes and there will also be a raffle. Admission to the event is free.

FAMILY FUN DAY - St Laurence’s Church has organised a family fun day on Sunday which begins with a service at 11am and is followed by a free barbecue and fun activities on Russell’s Meadow.

The event will close with songs of praise from 5pm - 6pm. Free admission to the event and all are welcome.

LONGMYND HIKE - Just a reminder that the next meeting of the Longmynd Hike will be at 8pm in the District Social Club on Sunday.

SCHOOL NEWS - Sporting successes at St Lawrence’s have found the tag rugby team through to the national finals played at Rugby school, and in the aquathlon held at Lucton school the school came second overall with two pupils receiving individual awards for first and third places.

The annual sports day has taken place and the new Davies Cup was won by Ragleth House.

The end of term leavers service will be held in the church on July 19.

Church Stretton school presented a Festival of Achievement when many of the year eleven leavers returned to entertain visitors with dancing, drama and music.

The evening also offered an opportunity for everyone to see the work done in art and design.

A grand finale gala concert rounded off the event with solo and group performances and by the concert band which included students from all years, and was conducted by Chris Bolton.

SPONSORED RELAY - The Church Stretton Skatepark group is raising funds with a sponsored relay on July 20, with a 150m for 150K event around Church Stretton.

There are invitations to sponsor a rider or join in the event on BMX, skateboard or scooter.

FOLK DANCE - Ticklerton folk dance takes place at the village hall on July 20, 8pm to late and no experience is necessary to take part as Ron and Dot are there to lead the way. All welcome.

TOM PEEL’S CHARITY EVENT - The event takes place at Ashfield House, Walkmills, Leebotwood on July 20 from 6pm to late and features Simply Take That and Robbie T Entertainment.

An evening of music and entertainment is promised and there will be food, a bar, tombola and raffle.

Proceeds go to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, ward 15, and the haematology unit at the RSH in association with South Shropshire Hunt.

NIGHT TEA - No need to worry about the weather at the high tea to be served up at Highlands, Hazler Road on July 21 between 3pm and 5pm.

Musical entertainment will be by Ed Moseley on piano accordion.
