COUNTRY MARKET - The country market is open for business from 9.15am - 11.45am at Mayfair community centre on tomorrow (Friday) selling cakes, produce and crafts.

BOOK EVENT - The Independent Booksellers’ Week ends on Saturday when the Michelin Man will be giving away I-Spy books and other goodies at Burway Books.

PLANT SALE - A plant sale at 6, Ragleth Road, by permission of Mr D Small, will be open from 10am - 12.30pm on Saturday raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

TABLE TOP SALE - A table top sale in Leebotwood village hall on Saturday will raise funds for the church and is open from 10am - 12noon.

RUSHBURY FETE - Rushbury summer fete will be held in the village hall on Saturday at 2pm. There will be various stalls and activities.

CONCERT - The summer concert in aid of the RNLI will take place at Church Stretton school on Saturday at 7.30pm when the Laurence Singers from Manchester will be in concert.

Admission is £9 including a glass of wine or soft drink.

SKITTLES NIGHT - A skittles night at the District Club will be held on Saturday from 7pm. There will be cash prizes and teams of two to four players are invited to take part. Entry fee is £5 per team and all ages are welcome.

LEASOWES BANK - Music at Leasowes Bank kicks off on Saturday at 8pm and continues on Wednesday and Saturday evenings until July 20. To find out more ring 01743 790769.

TREASURE HUNT - Methodist Wives and Friends Group will host a car treasure hunt on Tuesday and anyone wishing to take part should meet at the Methodist hall at 6.45pm to arrange car sharing. Visitors are welcome.

GARDEN VISITS - Tuesday offers a chance to visit Roy Strong’s The Lasketts Garden arranged by the local gardening club during a half day trip with afternoon tea provided, leaving Church Stretton at 1pm. TREE GROUP - On July 10 the Tree Group will be hosting a guided walk in Rectory Field and wood led by Edward Andrews of Shropshire Council.

SMALLHOLDERS - The Smallholders Group will be out and about on Thursday, July 11 when members and guests have the chance to visit the Stretton Hills Mineral Water Company.

The evening will be rounded off with a pub meal at the Green Dragon.

LUCKY NUMBERS - The winning numbers in the June lottery in aid of Mayfair were 56, 517, 372 and 458 winning £100, £50, £20 and £10 respectively.

AUTHORS - Mayfair community centre offers a chance to meet local authors at a book event on July 13, from 10am - 1pm giving budding authors an opportunity to ask questions and find out how to get published. There will be books and special offers available.

PROMISE AUCTION - Church Stretton School will be the venue for a promise auction and hog roast on July 12 from 7pm-11pm. Tickets cost £10 and the event will raise funds for the Borneo and Romania expeditions. The evening will include a promise auction with many prizes to bid for including gym membership, holiday voucher, two for one meals, gardening and many more.

SCHOOL NEWS - St Lawrence’s Primary School pupils attended a technology day at Church Stretton School and on the sporting front they have played in a rounders friendly against two other schools, and attended the Shropshire cricket finals at Wellington where they just missed out but came second in their group. A KS2 athletics competition held at Church Stretton School saw St Lawrence’s finish in first place. Parents and carers are being invited to sports day. A day out with Crucial Crew, a visit to Carding Mill Valley and a walk and camp at the Longmynd Adventure Camp are all on the school’s calendar before end of term.

LONGMYND HIKE - The next meeting of the Longmynd hike will take place at the District Club on July 14 at 8pm. At the last meeting it was decided that Primo Solutions should replace Paypal as the payment provider for entries in the Longmynd hike. It was also decided that waterproofs would be a necessary kit item. The committee was seeking volunteers to help put up the hike checkpoint shelters and if anyone can offer help please contact one of the committee members.

CHURCH NEWS - The holiday club for four to 11 year olds will run from July 24 - 26 at the parish centre with lots of creative activities at a cost of £5 for the three days. Places are limited and applications need to be returned by July 12. St Lawrence’s Primary School has application forms.

On July 15 church leaders will be in Housman’s from 10am - 11.30am for people to go along for a chat and ask questions so that the church can review its work with children and families.

STRAWBERRY TEA - A strawberry cream tea is planned for July 14 at Essex Lodge in All Stretton from 2.30pm - 4.30pm. There will be cakes and plants on sale and a raffle.

Admission to the event is free.

SUNDAY BRUNCH - Friends of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital are hosting a Sunday brunch event on July 14 at All Stretton village hall from 11am - 1pm. Tickets cost £10 and the number to ring is 01694 722072.

CHARITY EVENT - Tom Peel’s charity event on July 20 will raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, (ward 15), and the haematology unit at the RSH in association with the South Shropshire Hunt. On the music programme will be Simply Take That and Robbie T Entertainment and there will be food, a bar, draw and tombola.
